Silicare™ is a relic to the sculptural elements deployed in moving-image based work “Blue-Light Synthony” by artist Corie McGowan.

Each object is handmade featuring a Jesmonite head covered with a hand poured layer of platinum silicon, the silicon representing the fictional healthcare product which explores identity in a heightened sense of anxiety which stems from existing in the neoliberal epoch. Taken from a 3D scan of the artist's face, the translucent layers of silicon aim to echo a vicious ocean, adhering to the themes of Hydrofeminism within the work.

What might be becoming a body of water, ebbing, fluvial, dripping, coursing, traversing time and space? Questioning our identity and connection to the outerworld via hydrocommons for example the passing of a virus through bodily fluids at the same time feeling vulnerable and fragile.

Thinking of Silicon as a material for the future, perhaps a protective shield in a post-digital era, perhaps for navigating the aftermath of a post-austerity driven landscape and shielding the wearer from pollution as a result of climate instability. Each silicon shield is attached to a jesmonite head to retain its shape and structure for display purposes.
